The Centre de métallurgie du Québec : A Major Milestone for Technological Sovereignty in Defense in Quebec

A strategic positioning for Quebec’s defense ecosystem.

The Carrefour québécois de la fabrication additive (CQFA) would like to congratulate its partner, the Centre de métallurgie du Québec (CMQ), on securing $1,641,900 in funding under the Regional Defence Investment Initiative (IRID).

This announcement marks a major turning point for Quebec’s advanced materials and additive manufacturing ecosystem.

With this investment, CMQ will become the only laboratory in Canada to obtain Nadcap accreditation—an internationally recognized certification essential for validating materials used in military equipment and other critical applications. This positioning will significantly strengthen companies’ ability to access defense supply chains.

The integration of new state-of-the-art equipment—including a high-power LPBF 3D printer, a CMT Additive Pro welding system, and vacuum melting capabilities—will further consolidate Quebec’s expertise in the development and qualification of strategic dual-use materials.

For the CQFA, this milestone brings meaningful impact:
✔️ Expanded access to certified infrastructure for companies
✔️ Enhanced competitiveness in defense markets
✔️ Accelerated innovation in additive manufacturing

We are proud to collaborate with a partner that actively contributes to building a strong, certified value chain aligned with strategic markets.

Congratulations to the entire CMQ team on this structuring milestone for Quebec’s manufacturing and technology sectors.
