Quebec’s AM ecosystem is booming. It is home to more than 200 companies and organizations, including two of the world’s largest AM metal powder manufacturers. Its business environment promotes entrepreneurship, which has led to the creation of several dynamic SMEs.
Demand for this technology comes primarily from the aerospace and life science industries. Between 2015 and 2019, more than 80 companies, including many OEMs, explored additive manufacturing through joint R&D projects with some 40 research teams dedicated to the field. This growth has been encouraged by government programs that support the purchase of equipment, including 3D printers. To pursue its expansion, Quebec’s AM ecosystem will need to focus on technology adoption, the development of AM-related skills and capabilities, collaborative R&D, and the sharing of resources and experience among the various stakeholders who work within this innovative environment.
