The European Commission is launching a call for projects focused on the development of advanced manufacturing technologies and equipment. With a total budget of €36 million, the Advanced manufacturing for key products (IA) – Made in Europe partnership call aims to strengthen European industrial capacity, productivity, resource efficiency, and the circularity of manufacturing processes.

Additive manufacturing is explicitly identified among the targeted technologies, alongside hybrid manufacturing combining additive and subtractive processes, polymer composite manufacturing, advanced joining and surface treatment technologies, lightweight component manufacturing, and in-line testing technologies.

Projects are expected to contribute to the development of technologies enabling the manufacture of strategic components and products while reducing the use of critical or imported raw materials. Increased use of secondary raw materials, bio-based materials, and revalorised components is also encouraged.

The integration of advanced materials, including lightweight, functionalised, or self-healing materials, may also be considered where it can improve the performance and quality of manufactured products.

Projects geared towards industrial demonstration

Activities are expected to start at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 and reach TRL 7 by the end of the projects. Proposals must also include a business case and a strategy for exploiting the project results.

International cooperation is encouraged under this call. For Canadian organisations eligible to participate in Horizon Europe, this may therefore provide an opportunity to explore collaborations with European partners in advanced and additive manufacturing.
